Our Beloved Sponsors

May 18, 2018

We’re thankful as an independent menswear blog to have sponsors, so twice a month, we like to thank them for their support. It gives us a chance to recognize them, as well as update our readers on our sponsors’ latest happenings.

The Hanger Project has some new ties in this week for their in-house label, Sovereign Grade. These are handmade in France by one of the world’s best neckwear manufacturers. And they come in a range of your basic silks — from navy foulard prints that are designed to be worn with suits, then some staple grenadines in black and blue. The grenadines could be worn with suits or sport coats, in casual or business contexts. These come in a three-fold construction and classic 8.5cm width.

Proper Cloth just brought back their special run of washed denim shirts. These are notable since most washed denim shirts are only available off-the-rack — custom shirtmakers can’t offer them because the finishing process requires big-batch runs, which is impossible when you’re doing one-offs. Off-the-rack shirts, on the other hand, don’t give you the flexibility of custom tailoring. Proper Cloth’s denim shirts bridge that gap. They give you a customizable fit, but an enzyme-washed denim shirt that makes the fabric look a little more worn in, a little more casual. They also have a ton of new fabrics available this time around, such as an indigo oxford Aloha print. Just note the offer is only up for a week, then they move to production.

Chipp is one of the most affordable sources for accessories, and being a custom clothier (they’ve dressed everyone from JFK to Andy Warhol), they also have a bunch of odds-and-ends laying around the shop. This week, they’re offering a pair of olive whipcord suspenders made with black leather button kips and silver-colored adjusters. Paul, Chipp’s proprietor, had a bit of extra material leftover from another customer’s order, so he made two more pairs. The price for these? Just $53.25, shipped, which is about half the price of their competitors. To buy them, just go to Chipp’s site and order any pair of suspenders, then leave a note in the comment section and say you want the olive whipcords.

Dapper Classics has everything from tailored trousers to ties these days, but they’re most known for their socks. The socks are made from high-end cottons and wools, with the toes being hand-linked, rather than seamed, so they’re more comfortable. Most importantly, they come in every pattern and color you can imagine. For classic tailoring, you generally want your socks to match or at least complement your trousers. Brown trousers get brown socks; grey trousers get grey socks; and navy goes with everything. When in doubt, go one shade darker (see photo above). This visually extends your leg line and helps make your shoes look distinct from the rest of your outfit.

Finally, if you’re looking for some slip-on shoes this summer, Huckberry just got some in from Sabah. They’re made in Turkey and based off an old Turkish style, but modified a little (the originals had a pointed and curled toe box, which the company’s owner took in and made rounded). These are casual; made from full-grain leather; and designed to be worn with things such as easy pants and chinos. Huckberry also has a ton of new things this week — Flint & Tinder shorts, AstroFlex slip-ons, and Wingback London’s wallets.
