Tailoring is serious business. The perfect shoulder, the right trouser rise, cuff or no cuff- these are the quests and questions that keep traditional menswear enthusiasts up at night. But occasionally it’s time to leave the worsted flannels on the hanger and live your day in denim and a tee shirt. To stave off the potential for such a simple outfit to be boring, consider swapping in a belt buckle that’s just a little bit more than your average D-ring.
Some might find the large buckle look overly ostentatious, a sort of workwear equivalent of “go-to-hell pants” or novelty ties. Indeed, there are a few that are, shall we say, less than appropriate for any outfit. But they are a hallmark of workwear history that deserve a fair shake. Pair them with your favorite denim and some engineer boots, another workwear stalwart in need of more love. Channel the vintage heads from Inspiration LA and live a little on the wild side. Considering there’s no shortage of styles of buckle you should find something to fit your fancy.
