Whit Stillman’s Frayed Collar

The other day, I interviewed the director Whit Stillman for my public radio show Bullseye. Stillman’s known for his mannered comedies of manners – stories about the upper classes and young people finding themselves.

Stillman himself went to prep school and Harvard University, and I was delighted to see when he walked into our office that his attire fit the part. He was dressed casually, and his oxford shirt featured a profoundly frayed collar. You can see it in this photo I shot, but what you can’t see is that the back collar’s frayed as well. True Yankee luxury.
